Robot Vacuum Cleaner Philips
For the course Consumer Products, we worked in groups of 8 students, studying mechanical engineering, industrial design and industrial engineering and management. Working with students of different disciplines was the main purpose of the course. In this group, we had to design a new robot vacuum cleaner (RCV) for Philips. All different parts of the robot had to be thought of; the mechanics, electronics and sensors, the design and the packaging.
We created a RVC that could easily clean corners and clean around objects by an extended, rounded corner. The RVC automatically finds its way back to the base station where it charges and empties the dust box of the RVC in the larger dust bag placed in the base station. In this way, the RVC could be thinner, making it easier to clean under furniture. The user could easily instruct the RVC by a mobile application, in which also rooms could be selected. In the end, a model of the RVC had to be made.
