Games of Active Life
At Roessingh Research and Development I have been working on the Games Of Active Life (GOAL) project. In the international, Horizon 2020 project a wellness app was developed that helps to maintain a balanced and active lifestyle, pursuing physical, social and cognitive activity. GOAL facilitates your behavioral change through numerous apps that together contribute to balanced active living. GOAL introduces awards that can be earned upon reaching goals or fulfilling tasks and can be redeemed in other apps of the GOAL ecosystem.
I have been involved in the design of a gamification layer of a physical activity application that could be connected to the GOAL platform to generate coins. I created the concept of the game – The Island Exploration Game -, the graphics and implemented a large part of gamification layer in Android. The gamification layer was build on top of the data of the user’s Fitbit. The user was shown a map of an island. The more steps the user would take, the further the path of on the island would be filled in. On the way, the user would unlock cabins, which were connected to a mini-game: the 24-game. In this mini-game, the user trained his or her cognitive abilities. When reaching the end of the path in time, the user finished the game successfully. To personalise the game, the amount of steps needed to fill the path was connected to the user’s personal step goal.
